Mark Hanson Polaroid Author PictureMost people realize that losing weight is more about modifying lifestyle habits than simply eating less. What people don’t understand is that massive lifestyle changes don’t happen overnight. If you try to make significant changes in your lifestyle within a very short period of time you will likely end up frustrated and disappointed with your weight loss efforts.

In this article I will take you beyond the world of strict diets and body killing exercise routines!

The first tip has to do with your mind, how you think.

1. Avoid self-destructive negative thoughts.

Thinking negative thoughts about how hard weight loss is, or how difficult exercise is, will do more harm to your body than fake diet pills. If you are always thinking that you can’t avoid certain foods or are unable to do certain exercises you are doomed to failure and will not be able to consistenly lose weight.

Negative thinking produces negative results.

To effectively lose body fat you may have to lose the mind fat of negative thinking first.

Action step…

Flood your mind with "I Can Do It!" thoughts.

-I CAN lose weight!
-I CAN stop overeating!
-I CAN and WILL exercise until my excess body fat is gone!

Write affirming thoughts on peel-and-stick type notes and place them around your house. You will be amazed at how much they will improve your thinking.

So what if you can’t mentally or physically do thirty push up. Start out with ten or five or one! Just do what you can today and improve on that tomorrow. Starting small isn’t bad, doing nothing is bad. Especially if you are doing nothing because of fear that is produced by negative thinking.

Stop sitting around and thinking too much. Just get up and DO something! The amount of time you spend on chastising yourself with negative criticisms would be better spent exercising. While the former never helps, the latter will help you burn fat and lose weight!

2. Get emotional support.

Proper support is important to keep you determined and motivated. It’s important that you enlist the help of your family who understand you and agree with your weight loss goals.

It’s tempting to say that the support of family is vital and that without it you will probably fail. But that’s just not the case. It’s entirely possible that some of you reading this blog post don’t have supportive family. They may have weight problems themselves that they don’t want to deal with right now. What should you do then? Here’s what you do.

Action step.

Find a like-minded friend/s with similar goals as yours. Or join an online weight loss forum to get daily or weekly tips, advice and encouragement for your peers and experts alike.

As best you can surround yourself with supportive people and stay away from the negative people!

Just remember that the supportive weight loss friend you have today may quit tomorrow. So you have to be determined to have a stick-to-it-no-matter-what happens attitude.

If you follow these two simple tips there’s no reason why you won’t be able to lose weight. Remember that you can achieve whatever you believe in your mind. If you believe you can lose weight, you WILL! I know it sounds like a cliche but it’s true!

To Your Good Health,

Mark Hanson
