uestion. Tom you once wrote: ‘Who better to model than bodybuilders and fitness competitors? No athletes in the world get as lean as quickly as bodybuilders and fitness competitors. The transformations they undergo in the 12 weeks prior to competition would boggle your mind!’
Only ultra-endurance athletes come close in terms of low body fat levels, but endurance athletes like triathletes and marathoners often get lean at the expense of chewing up much of their lean muscle.” There seems to be a contradiction unless I’m missing something.
Why do bodybuilders and fitness competitors have to go through a 12 week ‘transformation’ prior to every event instead of staying ‘lean and mean’ all the time? If they practice the secrets revealed in your book ‘Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle’, shouldn’t they be staying in great shape all the time instead of having to work at losing fat prior to every competitive event?”

One of the biggest myths in fitness is that you have to maintain a certain heart rate in order to lose fat or that there is a perfect heart rate for weight loss number. But that’s just not true. Unfortunately, this myth has led to a lot of low-intensity training and therefore, a lot of failed fat loss programs.
The quicker you stop concerning yourself with the "high heart rate equals the best workout" mentality, the quicker you will start to change your body and lose weight.

Mike Geary, author of best selling book "Truth About Abs" experimented with intense overeating on himself. He wanted to answer the question of what would happen if he overate nutritious food.
"I wanted to see if I could actually GAIN unwanted body fat by eating as much food as I wanted for six weeks straight. My theory was that if you eat the right types of food and don’t stray from those foods, the body will automatically rebalance itself, even though you’re attempting to overeat.

uestion. I’ve been following your Burn The Fat system with good results.
I’m losing body fat and maintaining my current lean mass. I’ve noticed that during my calorie deficit phase I sometimes suffer from light headedness and nausea for no particular reason but not during my maintenance phase.
I read an article that said that toxins from the food in the "typical American diet" of processed crappy foods get stored inside our fat cells along with excess dietary fat when we overeat, and when we create a calorie deficit and burn the excess fat in our bodies, we release those toxins back into the blood stream. Have you ever heard of this? Any truth to it?

Believing in the "Cardio Cures Everything" mentality is the biggest mistake that all women make when it comes to fat loss.
Let me explain…
One morning as I was walking home from the gym I passed by a young women – about 28 years old – who was talking on her iPhone. I heard her say, "I’m going for a walk now to get some exercise because I’m going out for a bad dinner tonight."
And I just wanted to yell, "No – no – no – no – no! That doesn’t work. It never has, it never will."

As a nutritionist, the most common question I get daily is "What’s the best weight loss diet plan to follow?"
My answer is always the same and one that shocks most people. "The best diet to follow is to follow NO diet at all."
How could any self-respecting nutritionist, wanting to promote health, tell you not to follow a diet plan?
Easy.

The #1 reason for not working out is? LACK OF TIME!
If you get up at 5:30am to drive an hour to work, only to get home at 6pm and then have to launch right into carting the kids around, who can blame you for not working out? Not when it takes 45 minutes to do cardio, and another 30-45 minutes for isolation bodybuilding workouts.
If that’s the way you have to exercise to lose fat, then practically no normal person is going to be able to pull that off.

By now, you probably realize that adding lean muscle mass to your body does wonders for your metabolism and fat loss, as well as a host of other benefits that allow you to live out your life as healthy as possible.
Unfortunately, most people I see performing weight training or resistance training at the gym are spending too much time with the exercise and not working hard enough. They’re not going to burn very much fat this way.
